NLPA's athletic program is a ministry. The camel was chosen as our spirit mark for one reason, endurance. Built to carry heavy loads across hard terrain without giving up. That is the NLPA student athlete.
Athletics at NLPA
New Life Preparatory Academy was not built on academics alone. From the very beginning, athletics was part of the vision, because Dr. Alex L. Jenkins Sr. understood that a young person's confidence, discipline, teamwork, and sense of belonging can be forged on a court or a field just as powerfully as in a classroom.
When Dr. Jenkins' sons were pushed out of the public school system, denied not just an academic pathway but an athletic one, the dream of NLPA included restoring both. The sons who became NLPA's first graduates carried with them not just diplomas, but the understanding that their potential had never been the problem.
Every NLPA student athlete who puts on a Camels uniform carries that history.
Why the Camel?
The camel carries heavy loads across long, hard terrain without giving up. It is built for the journey that others abandon. It does not quit when the conditions get difficult, it was made for exactly those conditions.
That is the NLPA student athlete.
Biblical Significance
In Scripture, the camel represents provision, blessing, and the faithfulness of God to those who trust Him on long journeys. The NLPA Camels carry that legacy into every competition.

American Tackle Football
NLPA's flagship program. Full tackle football for grades 9 to 12 and the unique 13th Year Postgraduate Prep Program. Ages 14 to 19.

7 on 7 Flag Football
Competitive flag football open to all NLPA students including Adult Diploma enrollees. One of the fastest growing formats, used by college programs for recruiting evaluation.

Basketball
NLPA's Year 1 launch sport. Basketball builds community presence and recruiting visibility in South Florida while developing team leadership and character.

Postgraduate Football Prep
The NLPA 13th Year Postgraduate Football Preparation Program is what sets NLPA apart from virtually every other private school in South Florida. Designed for student athletes who have completed their standard high school eligibility but need one additional year of academic and athletic development before college.
